Thanks to all of the students and colleges that submitted entries for the first - ever "Battle of the Bands" sponsored by WQED and the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus.
We received dozens of entries from students in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. Listening to all of the genres of quality music being produced by young people in our region was refreshing and exciting for our judges comprised of music producers, musicians, and other musical professionals from the Pittsburgh area and staff from the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus in New York. It was close, but based on the votes, the competition was narrowed down to our five finalists. Congratulations to our five finalists that will perform on Sunday, November 4, 2008 at noon in WQED's Studio A. Watch the video of the finalists being announced on OnQ October 15, 2007.
The winning band will receive: free entry into the 2008 John Lennon Songwriting Contest and a professional recording session on board the JLETB courtesy of the JLETB, Live software courtesy of Ableton, Reason software courtesy of Propellerhead, a micro cube guitar amp courtesy of Roland, ten sets of guitar strings courtesy of Elixir, 1,000 custom CDs in full color jacket and three color on - disc printing courtesy of Disc Makers, a Pro Account courtesy of Pure Volume, track jackets courtesy of NAMM, and a prize package courtesy of Maxell and an iPod Shuffle courtesy of Apple for each band member. The winning band's college will receive: Logic Pro 7 music production software courtesy of Apple Computers, 4 music notation software courtesy of Sibelius, and one copy of "Come Together: The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus Guide to Music and Video."
