WQED Multimedia’s focus on local community content has caught the eye of PBS and the nation. Since the late 1990s, programs produced for a local audience have blossomed and become the biggest hits in PBS history. From "Doo Wop" to "Flea Markets" to "Comfort Food", WQED’s shows have been highly successful all across the country. And they all have one thing in common: our programs tell America’s stories.

Whether through music or family recipes, each brings together real narratives of life around the country. They are gathered under one title for distribution to a national audience: Telling America’s Stories.

Telling America’s Stories consists of three program series: "America’s Home Cooking", which includes Chris Fennimore’s popular cooking programs that are taped for a national pledge audience; American Soundtrack, T.J. Lubinsky’s immensely successful music programs that have become a hallmark of WQED; and All-American Documentaries, Rick Sebak’s documentaries on American life and traditions. Such productions enable WQED to export Pittsburgh to the nation and the world.

Over 500 singing groups have been included in WQED’s hugely successful American Soundtrack since 1999. Beginning with "Doo Wop 50" and continuing through "Rhythm, Love & Soul" (with corporate sponsorship from US Airways), this series has captured for all time our American musical heritage by assembling the original groups for one last performance in Pittsburgh. PBS aired the specials for a national audience and has raised over $50 million.

Rick Sebak national documentaries, including "Sandwiches That You Will Like", "A Flea Market Documentary", "Great Old Amusement Parks", "A Hot Dog Program", "An Ice Cream Show", and "Shore Things", have found a new audience around the country with Sebak’s special style of telling a story through the words of the people in his documentaries.
