Pittsburgh Opera Preview

We take a look at Pittsburgh Opera’s next staging, Gioachino Rossini’s La Cenerentola, the fairy tale with a message of forgiveness that brings back Vivica Genaux in the title role, and former Resident Artist Arthur Espiritu as Price Ramiro, in a colorful Minnesota Opera production.  La Cenerentola opens next Saturday at the Benedum Center.

Richard Wagner:  Siegfried.  Robert Lepage's landmark production of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen is back for three complete cycles this spring, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth.  Jay Hunter Morris reprises his acclaimed portrayal of the title hero in the epic's third installment.  Deborah Voigt is Brünnhilde, Mark Delavan is the Wanderer, and Eric Owens is Alberich, with Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi on the podium.

From the Top, with Christopher O'Riley

Gunther Schuller, the great American composer, conductor, author, music educator, jazz innovator, and French horn player is the special guest artist this week. You'll hear some of his favorite From the Top moments, and he’ll share stories of his multiple lives in music.  Then,  Christopher O’Riley presents a world premiere of a Schuller piece with three young musicians.
