Harmonia, with Angela Mariani

When Santa and his reindeer make the rounds this Christmas, what tunes do you suppose the big guy will have playing on his sleigh stereo system?  We'll take our best guess on this morning’s show.  Tune in for a playlist of holiday samplings from an array of early music recordings, new and old.

7:00am

Sunday Baroque, with Suzanne Bona

As you and your family are making final preparations for the Christmas holiday – last minute shopping, wrapping gifts, or traveling to your holiday destination -- Sunday Baroque will celebrate with warm and meaningful holiday music from a simpler time, including selections from Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio.

11:00am

A Choral Christmas with Stile Antico

Celebrate Christmas with the sound of soaring voices.  Stile Antico, the award-winning choir from London, pays a visit to St. Paul Church in Harvard Square for a concert of radiant sacred music for the Christmas season.

Sunday at the Symphony

Gary Thor Wedow conducts the orchestra, New York Choral Artists, and soloists in George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, the quintessential classical musical highpoint of the holiday season.  Messiah’s dazzling solos, fireworks instrumental passages, and some of the most glorious choral writing of all time have made it the undisputed favorite of the holidays throughout the world.  Soloists include soprano Layla Claire, countertenor Tim Mead, tenor Kenneth Tarver, and bass Alistair Miles.

8:00pm

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, with Jim Cunningham

Italian conductor Gianandrea Noseda brings music from and inspired by his country.  He’s the PSO’s Victor de Sabata Guest Conductor, so it’s fitting that he conduct The Night of Plato by de Sabata in its PSO debut, as well as Richard Strauss’ Aus Italien (From Italy).  Benjamin Hochman is soloist in Ravel’s demanding Piano Concerto (Left Hand Alone).

10:00pm
