Serge Zimmermann, born 1991 in Cologne/Germany into a family of musicians, received his first violin lessons by his mother at the age of five. His musicianship developed rapidly and already a few years later, in 2000, he made his orchestral debut with a violin concerto by Mozart.    

 

Since then, he has performed with a number of renowned orchestras such as Philharmonia Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra della RAI Torino, Orquesta Sinfonica de Barcelona, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and Bamberg Symphony. 

 

In December 2005 the young artist gave his first recital in Essen. After his much-acclaimed German performances of the violin concertos of Bruch and Mendelssohn the press hailed him as "…a sheer miracle…" and "a violinist of whom the world is going to hear a lot...". 

In 2007 he appeared at the festivals of Bad Kissingen and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and returned to the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2008 Serge Zimmermann had a tremendous success at the sold-out Philharmonie in Cologne together with the Munich Chamber Orchestra and he also performed at Andras Schiff's festival at the Kartause Ittingen in Switzerland. As a result of this concert, Andras Schiff invited him spontaneously to play under his baton with the Philharmonia Orchestra in Oxford and London. The Guardian wrote about the latter performance: "Armed with a beautiful, varied tone and blistering technique, Zimmermann will go far". In August 2009 Serge Zimmermann appeared at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival. Past recitals include performances at the Musikhalle Hamburg and Tonhalle Zurich. At the festival Kissinger Sommer 2010 he replaced Leonidas Kavakos at short notice and performed Mendelssohn's violin concerto op. 64 with the Bamberg Symphony under the baton of Herbert Blomstedt. 

 

In the 2010/2011 season Serge Zimmermann gives concerts with the Kammerorchester Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (Konzerthaus Berlin), Bamberg Symphony (including a guest performance at the Tonhalle Zurich), Kammerorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Münchner Symphoniker, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen and Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle Schwerin. With the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra under Music Director Manfred Honeck he makes his US debut, playing the Tchaikovsky violin concerto. Together with pianist Enrico Pace performs at the Heidelberger Frühling, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. 

 

Future invitations include concerts with the Duisburger Philharmoniker, Prague Symphony, Nürnberger Symphoniker, Stuttgarter Philharmoniker and with NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo.
