John Moore came to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra bass section in September 1996 from the San Diego Symphony. He also held the title of Principal Bass with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. Moore began his professional studies at the Curtis Institute of Music where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree. While at Curtis he studied with Roger Scott. He continued his studies with Lawrence Wolfe at the New England Conservatory. Moore has performed with the National Repertory Orchestra and at numerous music festivals including the Tanglewood Music Festival, Colorado Music Festival and Grand Teton Music Festival. He held the position of Associate Principal Bass with the Honolulu Symphony from 1989 to 1991 and served as a Lecturer at the University of Hawaii in 1991.
Moore won first place in the La Jolla Symphony Competition in 1993 and appeared as guest soloist with University of Denver's Lamont School of Music Orchestra in 1995.
