Giuseppe Verdi: Nabucco. This recording of the 1842 revolutionary opera that launched Verdi’s career stars baritone Piero Cappuccilli and soprano Ghena Dimitrova, with the Chorus and Orchestra of the German Opera, Berlin. Giuseppe Sinopoli conducts.
Ludwig van Beethoven: Fidelio. This classic early ‘60s recording of Beethoven’s only opera features mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig and tenor Jon Vickers. Otto Klemperer conducts the Philharmonia Chorus and Orchestra.
