Kreisler's Rondino on a Theme by Beethoven - 11/05/2014
The Lyra Duo will play works by Kreisler, Franck, Fletcher and Prokofiev on Nov. 9, 2014 for the Pitsburgh Concert Society. As a preview, violinist Melissa Stewart and pianist Luis Hernandez recorded Fritz Kreisler's Rondino on a Theme by Beethoven at WQED-FM. Beethoven's unpublished theme was once intended for his wind octet.

Patrick McNally sings Belcore's aria - 09/18/2014
Patrick McNally introduces and performs Belcore's aria from Donizetti's comic opera "The Elixir of Love." McNally will perform the role with Resonance Works, Sep. 12-14 at Pittsburgh Opera's White Studio. He recorded this preview performance at WQED with pianist Uliana Kozhevnikova.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Live from Hartwood Acres - Part 1 - 07/08/2014
On Sunday July 6th, WQED-FM broadcast our first ever live broadcast from Hartwood Acres with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.   Conducted by Fawzi Haimor, the orchestra performed works by Bernstein, Saint-Saens, Williams and more.  This concert was the first where people at home could see the orchestra via a 360 degree camera that the viewer could control.   Jim Cunningham hosts.

Clarinetist Rachael Stutzman and pianist Katie Palumbo (members of the Trillium Ensemble) play Niels Gade's Fantasy Piece, op. 43 #1. This performance was broadcast live on the QED Morning Show on Feb. 13, 2013.

Trillium Ensemble plays Nielsen - 02/15/2013
Flutist Deidre Huckabay and pianist Katie Palumbo (members of the Trillium Ensemble) play The Fog Is Lifting by Danish composer Carl Nielsen. This performance was broadcast live on the QED Morning Show on Feb. 13, 2013.

W. F. Bach: Sonata #2 for 2 Flutes - 04/27/2012
Carnegie Mellon flutists Catherine Gregory and Jessie Nucho preview their featured performance of the Sonata #2 for 2 Flutes by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, J. S. Bach's oldest son. Carnegie Mellon Baroque director Stephen Schultz says this is to the flute repertoire as Beethoven's late quartets are to that genre. Steelers Song (after Bizet's "Carmen") - 02/01/2011
Bizet's Toreador Song from the opera Carmen may be the first aria about a sports hero, the bullfighter Escamillo. Musicians from the Carnegie Mellon School of Music perform the Steelers Song, an adaptation of Bizet with lyrics by CMU faculty artist Douglas Ahlstedt. "Suisham's kicks, and Big Ben's magic tricks! Oh what a frightful fix, for the poor Packer mix! Red man will bend you- Rashard distend you, Ward and Brown and Heath and Mike will all beat you deep! Our Defense is like a strong steel fence, You're facing Hampton, Hoke and Clark and Gay and Taylor. Timmons and Ferrier, Keisel is scarier! Woodley, Troy and Harrison are all running you down!We're off to Dallas for our seventh ring! We'll be victorious, that's why we sing! Hail to our coaches Tomlin and LeBeau! They're the best, yinz should know! They'll lead us to our goal, in this, our seventh Super Bowl."

White Tie Group - 09/01/2010
The White Tie Group's Harold Smoliar, piano, and Don Evans, bass, play at Classical QED a preview of their Sept. 3rd appearance in the First Fridays at the Frick series. Formerly known as the Symphony Jazz Trio, the White Tie Group also includes PSO Principal Percussionist Andy Reamer.

Pianists Samuel Oram and Eric Clark join Carnegie Mellon Baroque directed by Stephen Schultz in the opening Allegro movement of J. S. Bach's Concerto in C Major, BWV 1061. Carnegie Mellon Baroque gives historically-informed performances on modern instruments.
