Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle
Presented by: Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh
Gioachino Rossini called his Petite Messe Solennelle "the last of my sins of old age." Completed just five years before his death, the Mass was Rossini's last major work, written 30 years after his last opera. Like all Rossini's music, it is gorgeously lyric, spirited, and irresistibly engaging. "Petite" only in instrumental accompaniment, and not overly solemn. Betsy Burleigh conducts.
