After the flight to Chicago, a five hour wait in the airport, safe arrival in Frankfurt, and a two hour bus trip, the two groups have arrived safely. It’s a gray day in Cologne. Our group, Group B, was briefly delayed by an accident on the smooth six-lane highway into town as the Polizei and emergency team attended to a motorist on the side of the highway. Our bus driver played some unusual music for the passengers – light country hits including the original Bonanza theme and a live recording of some sort of crossover bagpipe group. Watched Vin Diesel in Fast and Furious 4 on the Lufthansa flight, and a few minutes of one of the worst movies I have seen in my life, The Hangover, about a bachelor party gone wrong. Also on the in-flight TV, a one-hour documentary on Albrecht Meyer, the Berlin Philharmonic’s principal oboe, who is wildly popular in Europe. His documentary was shot by Unitel at the Lucerne Festival where the Pittsburgh Symphony will bring down the curtain on the summer season in just a few days.
