This is a Mid-Victorian cornice (say, from 1870) with brackets underneath.

A stone facing on the front of the house conceals the ordinary brickwork on the side walls.

This is a segmental arch. Its form is part of a circle but less than a semi-circle. An arch takes loads that fall upon it or hang from it and transfers them to either end where the loads are counteracted.

The Tooling on this stonework shows the marks left by a mason's tools when he cut this piece of stone from a larger block.
