The SciGirls Summit is a year-long project for middle school girls that inspires science smarts and engineering ingenuity! It's a chance for girls across Southwestern Pennsylvania to try awesome SciGirls experiments and activities, meet mentors in science, participate in an online community, and become Science Ambassadors to their school and friends!
Join us for our FREE watch parties!
Girls in grades 5 to 8, join us for these awesome free events this spring!
February 23, 2013 from 9:30 am – 12:15 pm
Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium
Bring your friends and join us at the Zoo for a fun morning of cold weather and hot science! You'll tour the Zoo, talk with a polar conservation scientist, and even meet some penguins! This event is free but space is limited.
March 23, 2013 from 9:30 am – Noon
Pittsburgh Botanic Garden
Bring your friends and join us at the new Pittsburgh Botanic Garden (15-20 minutes from downtown) for a fun morning of eco exploration! You'll walk the trails of the Woodland Gardens while learning about the forest and invasive species. Parents can stay and relax in the Parent Lounge, enjoy some coffee and chat with other SciGirl parents, or take a tour of the Gardens. Note that the entire event will be outdoors - rain or shine! The event is free but space is limited.
April 20, 2013 from 11:45 am - 4 pm
Geared4Girls at The Ellis School
Recruit your friends and join us for the Geared4Girls bike rally! Form a team of 2 to 4 girls, come up with an idea, and transform one of your bikes into something innovative. Then, bring the bike to the event where you'll join the rally and display your innovation for all to see as we introduce you and your friends to the other SciGirls and parents. No time to build/decorate your bike before the event? No problem! Bring it and plan to decorate it on-site with our supplies. Parents, join us in our Parent Lounge and stay to cheer on the SciGirls' innovations during the final reveal. It's the project runway of re-engineered bikes!
This event is free but space is limited - register online!

Participating SciGirls are starting a SciGirls Club in their schools (we'll provide the materials), hosting three SciGirls TV Season 2 “watch parties” for club members and friends, and participating in a huge year-end science celebration that's “Geared4Girls” - a bike-reengineering challenge and rally. Girls even have an opportunity to showcase their work while collaborating with their fellow SciGirls from across the region and nation through online projects!
WQED’s SciGirls Summit is brought to you by LanXess
with additional support from The Ellis School.

Every girl can be a SciGirl with a groundbreaking, Emmy Award winning TV show and interactive website that will transform the way tween girls look at science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
