WQED Multimedia brings you Community Cinema, a free monthly documentary series on topics important to our community, region, and world. Pittsburgh's Community Cinema provides an opportunity to view films from the award-winning PBS series Independent Lens, prior to their release on television.
Pittsburgh's Community Cinema is an educational forum to explore and discuss the many important and timely social issues featured in the films. Pittsburgh's Community Cinema gives you a chance to share and act. Community Cinema is a lens that sharpens our world view and we're bringing it to you monthly here at WQED.
After each monthly screening, a guest discussion panel comprised of educators, stakeholders, film scholars, and members of our community explore the film's themes in greater depth; providing an opportunity for open, community-based dialogue around the many important topics of each film.
This season's Community Cinema discussion panel moderator is David Dombrosky.
David is the Board President of the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture as well as the Executive Director of Carnegie Mellon's Center for Arts Management and Technology. He previously managed the Southern Circuit – Tour of Independent Filmmakers and often serves on film festival juries, including the International Documentary Challenge. Additionally, David is an alumnus of the Media Arts Leadership Institute. In 2007, David received the Emerging Leader Award from Americans for the Arts. He holds a M.A. in Communication Studies and B.A. degrees in Psychology and Speech Communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
