Get Out To See Fall Colors, But Don’t Take The Bridge

The trees are still colorful in Pittsburgh but frost is coming tonight.

Get outside today to take in Nature’s beauty … but don’t expect to cross the Greenfield Bridge into Schenley Park.

The Greenfield Bridge is closed now for 18 months (probably 2 years!) while it’s dismantled, blown up and replaced.

Today, October 17, there’s a party on the bridge — Greenfield BridgeFest — from 4:00pm to midnight. Music headliner: Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers. Win a chance to be the one to blow up the bridge.  Click here for more info.

Come on down!

  1. We decided to ride our bikes on the Great Allegheny Passage today. Leaf colors were good but it was cold (42 deg F), windy, rainy sometimes, and hail/sleet, with something looking like snow on the drive home. We started in Confluence and rode about half an hour towards Rockwood then turned around and rode back (maybe 8 miles total). As we were starting our ride, 2 riders from Kentucky were starting their trip to Washington DC, and another stalwart rider was riding his “fat tire” bike for the first time, planning to ride to Connellsville and back (50 miles)! Wish the temperature had been closer to normal, but still a good day to go leaf peeping.

    1. Larisa, thanks for sharing. I had no idea! … As I write this they’ve begun to take the bridge apart. On Monday they took away the light poles. More goes away every day.
