Duck, Duck, Goose

Published by at 6:54 am under Migration,Water and Shore

Waterfowl migration is in full swing across Pennsylvania.

Last weekend the lake at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area was completely thawed while the large lakes here in western PA still had ice.  Now, after a week of warm weather our side of the state has had a chance to catch up.

Tomorrow, March 20, the Three Rivers Birding Club will hold an outing at Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park to see how many ducks and geese have arrived.  Meet at the South Shore parking lot at 8:00am.

Duck, duck, goose.  How many will we count?

Check this link for waterfowl numbers — http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=621427&mode=2 — which are down considerably since last week.

Walk out to Willow Point and see the Bald eagles’ nest across the lake. Stop at the Visitors Center for a map & then drive the loop road to check out the ducks. If you can, visit at dawn or dusk to hear the frogs, owls and woodcocks.
