kate...i'm kind of with you. i don't really enjoy the chase and usually only investigate new birding spots if i have to travel for another reason. i prefer to hang tight at home and see what will turn up. afterall, you never know what you'll miss at home while you're out on a chase. this past weekend for instance, i was supposed to visit a friend in barnegat light, new jersey. in this case for sure, i was going to check out the inlet there which is locally famous for winter ducks and alcids among other birds. when my plans fell through however, i walked up to my local beach blocks away and ended up seeing a life bird, a razorbill, so close to shore that i was able to view it for hours before i cried uncle. it was great.
