Acrobat

Published by at 7:39 am under Mammals

The last time we saw Marcy’s bird feeder there was a cute black-capped chickadee on it.

I thought her feeder was squirrel proof because it hangs from a slender hook far from the pole, but those barriers aren’t a problem for this acrobat.

Look how this squirrel uses his back feet!  Look at his thumbs!

…At least he isn’t a bear.  ;)

For sure about not being a bear! Bears have a tendency (at least at my house) to remove the whole feeder for ease of eating. The feeder usually suffers from this abuse.

The bear-destroyed feeder that really upset me was a new feeder that was squirrel-proof = expensive. Hubby dug a hole and cemented a pole in place. This feeder was going to last many years.

Needless to say, it only lasted a few months until a bear snapped the pole and destroyed the feeder. He had dragged the feeder several feet away for his feast. :-(

Ahh — these little mammals can get just about anywhere with their lithe bodies. Fun to watch their acrobatics. — barbara
