Blue Beads

Published by at 7:49 am under Plants

Another name for Yellow Clintonia is “Bluebead” — and now we see why.

The fruits taste terrible and are mildy toxic — at least to us — so I wonder what made three of the beads disappeared from their stems.

I could be wrong, but I believe that eastern chipmunks eat bluebeads.

These would be a great ornamental plant; they’re beautiful and it seems like nothing would eat them. I read they are especially resistant to the deers, that’s what always gets my ornamentals.
