Great Lobelia

Published by Kate St. John at 7:22 am under Plants

If you look carefully you can still find Great Lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica) blooming in western Pennsylvania.  I’ve seen it recently at Raccoon Wildflower Reserve and at Barking Slopes along the Allegheny River.

Keep an eye out for its beautiful blue color.

When you find Great Lobelia, peek inside the snapdragon-like flowers for a bee’s eye view.

I’m shocked these flowers are still blooming in Pennsylvania, are there other wildflowers still in bloom at this time of the year? Thanks for sharing the great photograph!
