This morning and until we left at 1PM there were 66 on the south side of Bonnani Road. Last night they went to roost about 4:30 in Black Swamp. You can see them coming down the hill from the granery on Black Road as they come in to roost.

Cranes are amazing, aren't they? Once I was out photographing in Allegheny Cemetery. I was by one of the ponds really concentrating on trying to come up with interesting compositions with the lily pads. Suddenly I heard a little splash, I looked over my shoulder to see a crane taking off not 10 feet from me. I couldn't believe it had been there the entire time and I had been oblivious. I was so stunned by its grace that I just stood there, mouth gaping, with my camera in my hand. So much for that photo-op!

The exact same thing happened when Dan and I went to look for them years back....saw the Red-tailed Hawk and then there they were...I think we had 5 and since then the flock has really grown.... like turkeys they disappear "into thin air." We had trouble finding the Sandhills when they were just over the hill and you couldn't see them unless you went to the other road to look across, but farther away....Glad you got to see them, esp 59!!!

(There are many "snowy owl" plastic bags around, but I always check just in case.)
