Yesterday - 11/2/08 - was a great day for golden eagles at the Allegheny Front. I wasn't there but I hear it started off so foggy that everyone doubted there'd be any migration at all. Then at noon the fog cleared a little and 34 golden eagles flew by, some very close. 34! Wow.

The same day you blogged about the golden eagles, my friend Cris Hamilton, a photographer, called to say the conditions were right, so she was going to the same hawk watch site the next day and asked if I'd like to go, so I went. Thank goodness you mentioned dressing warmly...Brrrr! We saw several golden eagles while we were there, one of which had to be a juvenile. It flew directly over us and we could see the light wing patches. The people there were great. I'd like to go back next year to see the broadwings. We saw 8 ravens while we were there as well. And the view, wow! I've never seen anything like it; it's spectacular.
