Puccini's Madama Butterfly
Cio-Cio San's (Maria Luigia Borsi) open heart and trusting nature are the reasons that Pinkerton (Bryan Hymel) should love her, and the reasons that you'll weep at the end of the opera. The young Japanese woman, nicknamed Butterfly, gives up her family and her religion to be with Pinkerton. Pinkerton gives up nothing, and promptly leaves - returning three years later with his American wife, leaving the young Butterfly mortally devastated. Jean-Luc Tingaud conducts.

Pomerium: Mary Tudor: Glorious Music for England's Catholic Queen
Countering the view of Mary Tudor as a blood-thirsty tyrant with no love of the arts, a newer picture paints her five-year reign as one of extraordinary musical flowering, when England's greatest composers (White, Parsons, Tye, Tallis) were encouraged to compose the most elaborate and sophisticated music they could.
