Chatham Baroque - La Suave Melodia
"One of Pittsburgh's greatest treasures" says the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Chatham Baroque explores sonatas, sinfonias, toccatas, and dances of I7th- and 18th-century Italy. Includes works of Vivaldi, Tartini, Bertali and Kapsperger. Andrew Fouts (Baroque violin), Patricia Halverson (viola da gamba), Scott Pauley (theorbo and baroque guitar).

Budapest on the Bluff: Dominantly Dohnanyi
At 17, Dohnányi was championed by Johannes Brahms, but his tuneful, brilliant and heart-on-sleeve Romanticism was soon considered old-fashioned. However, today's audiences appreciate Dohnányi's sincerity, skill and emotionalism. The PSO's Gretchen Van Hoesen will be featured in his Harp Concertino. Bartók's Contrasts were commissioned by jazz clarinetist Benny Goodman. Its finale is a "Hungarian hoe-down," complete with a deliberately mistuned violin.

Angels in America, Part 1: Millennium Approaches
Jed Allen Harris directs Tony Kushner's Angels in America, a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning masterpiece that confronts the political and social failures surrounding the HIV/AIDS epidemic in 1980s New York City. This epic story transcends the political moment by using humor, the supernatural and heartbreaking realism; wrestling with universal themes of love, loss and responsibility. As relevant today as 20 years ago, the play fights against fear and bigotry with compassion and startling theatricality.

Tchaikovsky's Fourth
The concert begins with Composer of the Year Mason Bates' Mothership, commissioned and premiered by the YouTube Symphony in Sydney. Bates says this "fast-paced opener imagines the orchestra as a mothership that is 'docked' by several virtuosic soloists." Then, Manfred Honeck conducts Tchaikovsky’s vibrant Symphony #4.

Forever Plaid - Plaid Tidings
Directed by Jim Pollino. A holiday spinoff from Forever Plaid, the off-Broadway musical revue written by Stuart Ross in New York in 1990 and now performed internationally. The show is a revue of the close-harmony "guy groups."
