Independence Day Concert
Istvan Jaray leads the full orchestra in patriotic and well-loved musical selections. There will be a salute to military veterans, a Marine Corps honor guard, and for Tchaikovksy's 1812 Overture, a PA National Guard howitzer unit. Johnstown-area student singers will perform, and the JS Youth Orchestra Brass Ensemble will play big band favorites. Free admission.
Gretchen Franz, organ
Gretchen Franz, Music Director of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, plays a 30 minute recital on Westminster's Austin organ.
The Chautauqua: History Lives
Chautauqua 2012 takes place at six sites in Maryland. Garrett County's event focuses on the War of 1812, honoring the bicentennial of America's second war of independence, an important event in Maryland history.
Shana Simmons Dance presents over 20 artists - choreographers, musicians, writers/poets, installation artists, and visual artists – all commissioned to create 5-20 minute pieces which will continue on a loop through the evening. Semi-guided tours will lead the audience to experience the space and the artists in a comfortable explorative way. Audiences may stay to view a piece multiple times, or move through the venue at their own pace.

Kevin Noe conducts a program including Fantasy Etudes by Fred Lerdahl, Piece pour Ivry by Bruno Maderna, Fertility Rites by Christos Hatzis, Deep by Alex Shapiro, and the premiere of Taking Charge by Joseph Schwantner.
First Fridays: River City Brass
James Gourlay directs America's only full-time professional brass band in virtuoso marches, jazz, classical and pop transcriptions, and brass masterworks.
Fun. Comical. A little naughty! A newly-commissioned series of mini music dramas by six composers, all set in the same hotel. Catch a signature Night Caps cocktail, a glass of wine and some cabaret on the patio before your Night Cap, a 15-minute finale of absolutely unique “grown-up” entertainment! New, different, edgy. Sid Kweller: An Avian Adventure
Whimsical drawings by Sid Kweller including his "Green Dog" series, and his recent bird drawings from "The Annals of the Odd-U-Bon Society" are on view. Kweller may be best known as the architect for many specialty stores along Walnut St. in Shadyside such as London Dock, The Balcony, and The Gazebo.
Thomas Hong conducts Barber's Overture to The School for Scandal, Henry Mancini favorites including Moon River, Copland's Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo, Gershwin's An American in Paris, Sousa marches and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.
Monroeville Jazz Festival
The Airmen of Note, the United States Air Force jazz band, will headline the 10th annual Monroeville Jazz Festival, which also features local jazz artists: Eric Johnson, Maureen Budway, Benny Benack Jr., and Lilly Abreu. Tony Mowod is the Festival emcee.
Gilbert & Sullivan at SummerFest
Singers from the Pittsburgh Savoyards perform Gilbert & Sullivan "hits," plus a preview of their next production, The Yeomen of the Guard.
The glass is always half-full for Leonard Bernstein's Candide in this story of ultimate optimism! Travel the globe with our unlikely hero, as he confronts doom, death and destruction at every turn. And yet Candide finds a happy ending to make his garden grow in this “best of all possible worlds!"

Allegheny Brass Band
The ABB is a British-style brass band. Unlike your typical high school or college band and most “community” bands, we have no woodwinds (saxophone, clarinet, bassoon, flute, oboe). And of course, we have "no strings attached." Founded in 1984, the ABB is made up of about 30 amateur players who despite their diverse backgrounds and walks of life – share a common love of music. Free admission.
