Opera's Greatest Hits
The Allegheny County Summer Concert Series presents Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artists Juan José de León and Kyle Oliver and former Resident Artists Katherine Drago and Shannon Kessler Dooley with accompanist Mark Trawka in numbers such as La donna e mobile from Rigoletto, O sole mio, Largo al factotum from The Barber of Seville, Brindisi (Drinking Song) from La Traviata, The Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha, and Taylor the Latte Boy. Free admission.
Joshua Bell Plays Brahms
Manfred Honeck, praised by The Guardian for his PSO recording of Richard Strauss' Ein Heldenleben leads three tone poems: Don Juan, Death and Transfiguration and Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks. Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell returns for an impassioned performance of Brahms' technically-demanding Violin Concerto.
Musicians with a Mission
Members of the Westmoreland Symphony and Mendelsshon Choir and other talented local musicians will present a free one-hour concert hosted by QED's Jim Cunningham. A silent auction for the nonprofit Musicians with a Mission will expand their ability to bring live music into local healthcare settings.
Piano Scholarship Winners Recital
The Pittsburgh Piano Teachers Association presents 2012 scholarship winner Ben Grove, who will attend Westminster College, and past winners Alvin Zhu (Julliard) and Ted Evangelista (Boston University).
