Masterworks III: Piano Forte with Biegel and Zwilich
Featuring piano soloist Jeffrey Biegel, André Raphel conducts "Shadows," a co-commissioned work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Ellen Taaffe Zwilich that reflects the migration of the human spirit. Also scheduled, Brahms' Variations on a Theme of Joseph Haydn, and Schubert's Symphony #9 (The Great C Major).

Previn, Haydn, and Mendelssohn’s "Italian"
Former PSO Music Director André Previn (1976-1984) gives the premiere of his own Triple Concerto for Trumpet, Horn and Tuba featuring three principals from the PSO brass section. The Grammy, Oscar and Kennedy Center Honoree also conducts Haydn's Symphony #102 “Miracle” and Mendelssohn's vibrant “Italian” Symphony.

Mark Anderson, organ
Montana native Mark Anderson is the new Director of Music Ministry at Shadyside Presbyterian Church. Mr. Anderson arrived from Philadelphia's Presbyterian Church at Chestnut Hill, where he was Organist and Choirmaster for 15 years, as well as Dean of the Philadelphia Chapter of The American Guild of Organists. He studied at Westminster Choir College, Indiana University, and The Eastman School of Music and has performed on the BBC, NPR, and Icelandic State Radio.

The 19th Annual JFilm Festival brings the best international Jewish films to Pittsburgh-area audiences. What makes a film “Jewish?” The stories have to have a Jewish theme; the subject matter is important to the Jewish community; the characters, actors or director are Jewish and somehow touch on Jewish issues, or, in the case of films from Israel, the movie shares something of Israeli life or culture that we wouldn’t ordinarily experience. The films run the gamut from narratives to documentaries, dramas to comedies.
