The HoodleBug Brass is the brass quintet-in-residence at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and performs regularly in western Pennsylvania. Their first CD, entitled "Brass Fac's," was released in March 2004. The quintet performs works of all styles, from the Baroque to contemporary, pop and jazz.

An exhibition of more than 150 diverse pieces from the permanent collection – still life, landscape, sculpture, etc. – in need of conservation. The goal is to show how artworks are affected by sunlight, temperature, humidity, and so on, nd how we all can help preserve them.

Campbell Brothers' Sacred Steel
The Campbell Brothers present Sacred Steel: African-American gospel music with steel guitar and vocal from the House of God Keith Dominion Church, where for over 60 years it has been a vital, if little known, American tradition. Secular audiences at the Hollywood Bowl, the Kennedy Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music and Symphony Space have come to discover a performance both devoted and rocking.

Carnegie Mellon Baroque
The Baroque Ensemble will be performing works by Bach, Handel, Graupner, and faculty member Nancy Galbraith. Faculty members Stephen Schultz (Electric Baroque Flute) and Luz Manriquez (piano) will give the world premiere of Galbraith's Effervescent Air. Daniel Nesta Curtis will guest conduct the Galbraith premiere.

Téa Obreht
Téa Obreht was born in Belgrade and wrote her novel, The Tiger’s Wife, at age 25. It was selected by The New York Times as one of the five best novels of 2011. Obreht brings her considerable talent to the Lectures in a talk about her first book that has established her as one of the most vibrant and original writers of our time.

The School for Lies
In David Ives's freewheeling rewrite of Moliere's The Misanthrope, a disillusioned curmudgeon named Frank resolves to tell the truth to everyone he meets, no matter how disconcerting or offensive they may find it. This being a comedy, however, Frank is diverted from his highminded path by his love for the beautiful Celimene, a bored aristocrat with an equally sharp tongue. The play's virtuosic use of language turns their verbal duel into theatrical fireworks of the highest order. Andrew S. Paul directs.

Honeck & A Waltz Tradition

Whistle Stop (with Eugene Perry, baritone)
Internationally-renowned Eugene Perry returns for favorites by Mozart and Rossini, the stunning "Songs of Sundry Natures" -- settings of Renaissance poetry by the late English composer Phyllis Tate, and Songs of Experience by William Winstead, one of the Winds' first commissions from 1978. A post-concert reception includes guided tours through the mind-boggling toy train museum upstairs in this spectacular Victorian home.

Metropolitan Opera National Council District Auditions
Local and national contestants will compete at this first level of auditions. Winners will proceed to regional auditions in Buffalo for a chance to go on to the Semi Finals and Grand Finals Concert in March, 2013. Pittsburgh's 2012 District winner, Andrey Nemzer, was one of the top finalists at the Grand Finals Concert. District auditions are free and open to the public.
