The PBT Orchestra plays Adolphe Adam's score. The ballet tells the story of a peasant girl named Giselle, who is betrayed by her lover and dies of a broken heart. Giselle rises from the dead for vengeance, but in the end protects her sorrowful lover from the deadly Willis – evil spirits who haunt the forest in the night.

Once Upon a Dream
The Pgh. Philharmonic's Storybook Season begins with a narrated concert featuring Ravel's Mother Goose Suite, selections from Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, and selections from Disney favorites such as The Little Mermaid and Pocahontas sung by Butler's own Becki Toth. Kids are invited to dress up as their favorite prince or princess. Edward Leonard conducts.

5k Run & Fun Walk
Persad Center, the regions only counseling center specifically created to serve lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, will hold its first ever 5k Run & Fun Walk. Proceeds will let Persad continue protecting LGBT youth from bullying, discrimination, and abuse; providing counseling and creating safe & welcoming spaces for LGBT youth and their peers; and, working to bring homeless teens off the streets and of danger.

Deborah Kass: Before and Happily Ever After
This major mid-career retrospective of paintings, photographs and sculpture by New York artist Deborah Kass features approximately 75 works, showcasing Kass' achievements over the course three decades including her recent series, "feel good paintings for feel bad times." Using nostalgia in a new way, these works incorporate lyrics borrowed from The Great American Songbook and some of the greatest hits of post war American painting.

Kenneth Burky, piano
Pianist Kenneth Burky plays solo works: Haydn's Sonata #50in C major, Brahms's 3 Intermezzi, Op.117; and Debussy's Images, Book 1. He'll also be joined by his former student, Anoush Tchakarian in Russian music: Stravinsky's Sonata for 2 pianos (Pgh. Premiere); Khachaturian's Suite for 2 Pianos (US premiere); and the Armenian Rhapsody for 2 pianos by Arutiunian and Babadjanian.

The international percussion sensation Stomp has garnered an armful of awards and rave reviews, and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms.

The Trillium Ensemble, a trio of flute, clarinet and piano dedicated to producing concerts that are accessible, intimate and fun, presents a concert titled "Conversations." This program features super-virtuosic music from living composers including Derek Bermel, Adam Silverman and John Adams, and a Radiohead tune orchestrated Christopher O'Riley, the host of NPR's From the Top.

Fahrenheit 451
On the heels of Ray Bradbury's death this summer at 91, Prime Stage Theatre gives the regional premiere of Fahrenheit 451 in the author's own stage adaptation directed by Justin Fortunato. In this dystopian future, firemen burn books and hunt down anyone who takes the risk of reading them. Free thought and intellectualism are discouraged; to question authority puts you in danger.
