Two Ballet Premieres
The premiere of two ballets by founding directors Blake Ragghianti and Luke Mayernik, with orchestra conducted by Ryan Keeling and Alejandro Pinzon -- The Alkonost, with music by Mayernik, and Infinity, with music by Ragghianti.  Choreography is by Alan Obuzor, Kelsey Bartman, and Pearlann Porter featuring Texture Contemporary Ballet Company and The Pillow Project.  Mention WQED and get a 25% discount on tix, online or at the box office!

East Winds Symphonic Band

Budapest on the Bluff: Fife and Drums
Nine members of the Pittsburgh Symphony show off an array of sounds and colors in this season-opener, in music ranging from 17th century dances through dazzling Romantic virtuosity. The witty musings of Antal Doráti, one of the great conductors of the 20th century lead to the masterpiece of Bartók's Sonata, a work of overwhelming genius seldom heard in concert because of its great difficulty.

Michael Jackson, baritone
Baritone Michael Jackson performs with guest mezzo-soprano Adele Grabowski and organist Martin Barstow. The program will include Josef Rheinberger's Six Religious Songs, Op.157, Max Reger's Op.105 for Organ and Voice, and J. S. Bach's Cantata #57 "Selig ist der Mann," which will feature singers from the Covenant Church of Pittsburgh.

When Aunt Ester opens her home to the troubled Citizen Bartow, a recent migrant from the rural South, a battle ensues not only within Citizen, who begs Aunt Ester to "wash his soul," but also between Citizen & Caesar Wilkes, a stern man of the law, threatened by Citizen's independence and defiance of his authority.. Free Palace Theater Tours
One-hour tours include interesting facts and trivia about The Palace and former Manos Theatre, a vaudeville and movie house that opened in 1926. The 1369-seat theater hosts more than 100 events each year. A newspapers from 1926 that detailed the Manos Theatre's opening will be on view.  Info will be available about upcoming shows at The Palace Theatre, owned and managed by the Westmoreland Cultural Trust.

Reorganized by Louise Lippincott, CMOA's Scaife galleries highlight the museum's strengths in Impressionism, sculpture, Realism, and Aestheticism, providing a much more cohesive view of how art history has changed over time. New interpretive texts provide a deeper context and understanding of art and life from 1860 to 1920.
