Afternoon of the Elves Jr. presents Afternoon of the Elves, based on the 1990 Newberry Honor book by Janet Taylor Lisle. It's the story of Sara-Kate Connolly's overgrown back yard, which hides many secrets, the most exciting of which is a mysterious elf village. When Hillary, a popular new fourth grader, learns of the tiny houses, an unlikely friendship develops between the two girls. While caring for the elf village, Hillary stumbles on a much darker secret about Sara-Kate's life, which forces her to consider the charmed life she's had while others her age struggle to survive. 05/25/2013
The Classical Music of Sir Paul McCartney Rock for The Heart foundation presents Heart Strings, a salute to the classical music of Sir Paul McCartney, featuring the North American premiere of the orchestral adaptation of his Nova, performed by members of the PSO; benefits pediatric heart research. Phillips Family in Concert Todd and Daniel Phillips of the Orion String Quartet. soprano Amy Philllips, flutist Tara Helen O'Connor, and violinist Catherine Cho perform music by Beethoven, Schubert, Isaye and Saint-Saëns along with two premieres by Pittsburgh composer and musical patrriarch Eugene Phillips--Quintetto Concertante for soprano, flute, two violins and viola, and Suite for Viola and Bass Flute featuring a giant flute sounding two octaves below the standard instrument. 05/26/2013
