2003
12/27/03: -
Dave and Dave join the largest bingo game in Allegheny County,
match wits in their own version of TV’s “Survivor,” see
what it’s like to be pampered at a day spa, and take the inaugural
ride on Kennywood Park’s newest roller coaster, the Phantom’s
Revenge.
12/20/03: -
Dave and Dave find out if they have the right stuff to become FBI
agents. Then they assume the positions of Private Investigators
in order to spy on each other. After that, the Daves get snippy
as high
maintenance hairdressers, and finally, Dave & Dave earn their
wings at 10,000 feet thanks to the Pittsburgh Flight Training Center.
10/29/03: Rock
n Bowl - Bowling meets live music at Lawrenceville’s
Arsenal Lanes. Can you think of a better thing to do on Monday night?
Arsenal Lanes, 44th & Butler Street in Lawrenceville, 412-683-5992.
10/15/03: Blue
Belt - Dave and Dave travel around Pittsburgh on the
Blue Belt and you’ll be amazed to see what they discovered.
10/10/03: Beer
Can Collectors Convention - Dave and Dave head to the
David L. Lawrence Convention Center for the 33rd Annual Beer
CanVention. They find out what makes a good can and finally come
face to face with Ms. Beer Can 2003. website
9/4/03: Dave & Dave
get their own weekly TV series, "Dave & Dave's Excellent
Adventures!" This night marked the 1-hour primetime special
opposite "Friends," "CSI," and the "NFL
Kickoff Show" that featured Britney Spears performing before
the Jets and Redskins went at it. Stiff competition! After the
premiere, the show settled into its regular, weekly, Saturday night
at 11:30pm time slot.
8/2/03: Dave & Dave
Viewers' Request Show (full ½ hour featuring:
"Bingo," "Pittsburgh Bike Trails," "Hot Air Ballooning," and "D's
Hot Dogs") - 4 great adventures!!
6/13/03: Looks
like rain… it must be time for the Three
Rivers Arts Festival. The Daves get all artsy but
somehow manage to get caught up in deep fried oreos. And you thought
funnel cakes were bad! With acres of music, art, food, people and
yes… sunshine, the Daves squeezed every bit they could out
of the event. Did we mention the fried oreos?
6/4/03: Dave & Dave
grabbed their “bowls” and challenged the Frick
Park Lawn Bowling Club to a match. Kind of like bocce… kind
of like curling. Hank Luba and his group graciously let us onto
Pennsylvania’s only public bowling green and quickly thrashed
us once the gloves were off.
5/29/03: We
couldn’t figure out a way to drive the OnQ van to Naples
so we did the next best thing… we went to Lawrenceville!
To be more specific, a tasty pizza shop called Regina Margherita.
After a few hours we were speaking Italian and making our very
own pies in what can only be described as a Neapolitan microwave.
This experience was reminiscent of our D’s Hot Dog experience.
Good food… good people… good times! 3801 Butler Street
(412-622-0111) Closed on Mondays.
5/28/03: Our
first cancelled or postponed adventure. The Daves sat down with
Pittsburgh’s other on-air duo, Stan & Guy and checked
out their long-running Pittsburgh institution called “Sportsbeat.” Too
bad a few days before Fox Sports gave good-guy, Guy Junker his
walking papers. Dave… Dave… Love the show!
5/21/03: The
Daves stopped by the WDVE studios and sat in on afternoon diva, Michele
Michaels’ show. Why you ask? Because later that
night Michele and her crib would be joining us OnQ. We scratched
her show and she scratched ours. Good fun all the way around. And
her home was very, very Architectural Digest!
5/13/03: Round
two of Pittsburgh Celebrity Cribs… this time at the home
of Trib columnist, author, biker and all-around good guy Mike
Seate. For a really large man who could pummel us
at any time, he showed remarkable restraint as we joked and punned
our way through his sport-bike-themed abode.
4/25/03: The
Daves ventured out to Indianola to someplace called the Pirate’s
Cove to perform live on the final stop of WDVE’s
World Tour (of area bars). The kind of place Great
White might play and burn to the ground. The Daves won over the
hard drinkin’ crowd by tossing out OnQ t-shirts and peppering
their high-brow comedy with words like beer and Steelers.
4/16/03: She’s
the belle of the Weather
Center at WPXI, and we took you inside her home. Tonight
marked the first installment of “Pittsburgh Celebrity Cribs
with Dave & Dave,” and our first victim, err visit, was
with Julie Bologna. What did we learn? Julie’s dogs eat carrots,
she likes movies related to weather, and her middle name is Rae!
4/9/03: A
night at the Meadows seemed
like something fun, but we had no idea what we were in for. Exactas?
Trifectas? And lots of other math-sounding lingo. But we mingled
with experts, novices and the folks that work there for a complete
breakdown on how to squeeze the most fun (and profits!) out of
a night at the races.
3/26/03: The
Daves trekked out to swanky Nemacolin Woodlands for a one-of-a-kind
experience – driving Hummers where they were intended, out
in the wild. Nemacolin has the only hummer
driving club in the country. We plowed through it,
and you can too. Those folks at Nemacolin couldn’t have been
any nicer to us.
3/17/03: St.
Patrick’s Day leaves a lot to the imagination so we decided
to find out it’s true meaning by hanging out with kids from
the Berkeley
Hills Preschool. Turns out, St. Patrick was really
the leader of the leprechauns? Hmmm… Maybe we should have
asked a teacher.
3/10/03: The
Daves are known for a lot of things, but for their cooking skills?
Turns out none of that mattered, for we would be assisting QED
Cook, Chris Fennimore on
stage at the Home and Garden Show in the new downtown convention
center. What did we cook? The spiciest bruschetta ever created.
Teaspoon… Tablespoon… What’s the difference?
3/6/03: Who
knew Pittsburgh had two zoos? Dave & Dave visited the brand
spanking new Petersen
Events Center, home of the basketball-playing Pitt
Panthers for a look at the Oakland Zoo which turned out to be a
tremendously organized group of fans who have become Pitt’s
secret weapon for winning. That night Pitt beat WVU by over 30
points!
2/24/03: The
Daves branched out once again and inked contracts as Pulp’s
newest weekly columnists. Pulp is
that free paper that gives you the lowdown on everything happening
in town. Editor Geoff Kelly seemed to think our “Breaking
The News” segment we perform on WDVE every week would make
for nifty reading. We thought so too!
2/22/03: Let
them eat cake! The Daves help out the Children’s Institute
of Pittsburgh by judging a cake eating contest at Gullifty’s.
They know a thing or two about desserts! Other celebrity judges
included
OnQ’s Michael Bartley, former Steeler-great Dwight White
and a couple of TV news people. Next year we don’t judge… we
eat! Good fun for a good cause.
2/19/03: Ever
wonder what that Evel Kneivel dude would be doing today? Here’s
a hint… Freestyle Motocross. Dave & Dave hung out with
the stars of FMX Motocross when
they stopped by Mellon Arena for a high-flying competition. We
got to talk to local superstar Adam Jones who probably has a Playstation
game named after him by now! He did something called the “Kiss
of death,” which was pretty sick!
2/5/03: B-I-N-G-O:
not only is it a great song, it's THE game in Pittsburgh. Dave & Dave
take you to the Lithuanian
Citizens' Society on Pittsburgh's South Side to
play in one of the biggest bingo games in Allegheny County.
1/15/03: The
U-V Loop:
So youre going out and want to drive downtown, but
you hate the parking, the costs, the hassle. Now you can
take "the accessibly hip" bus through the coolest
parts of Pittsburgh every Friday and Saturday night. The
boys take you on a lively trip around the horn to find out
just where it goes and how much it costs.
1/8/03: Have
you ever heard of a sport called "curling?" No? Well,
take hockey and combine it with bocce and you get curling. The
Daves travel to the Island Sports Center on Neville Island to meet
the Pittsburgh
Curling Club. Will they use the brooms to introduce
high-sticking to the sport? Are there game misconducts? And will
they give new meaning to the term "throwing the rock"? BACK
