2002
10/18/02: With
Halloween in the air, we wound aboard the scariest boat this side
of Transylvania, the USS
Nightmare. Not only did we get a behind the scenes and full
of screams tour through the haunted ship, but we somehow we became
part of it too! This marked the first ever area sighting of a teen
wolf!
10/4/02: What
better of a place for a couple of yuk yuks like us to go than the Improv
Comedy Club at the Waterfront? Since there was a paying audience,
the club managers were a little leery about letting us loose, but
suffice it to say, there were plenty of laughs that night! We don't
care about that laughing with us as opposed to laughing at us thing.
9/25/02: Author
Lou Fineberg took us out on some of Pittsburgh's bike trails in and
around the city, and with bikes from Golden
Triangle Bike Rentals we were able to pedal ourselves numb.
A great way to spend the day! Check out Lou's book Three
Rivers on Two Wheels, a cool read indeed.
8/28/02: QED
History Dude Rick Sebak lent us some his knowledge of the area
belt system and a full-size yellow belt sign to boot! So with
that we hopped in our van and followed the yellow belt signs seeing
where it would take us. It was a full-circle that took us about 5
and a half hours to complete. And it was pretty well marked. The only
confusing spots were in Neville Island and Carnegie.
8/21/02: People
are always telling us we're full of hot air but this was ridiculous.
We took to the skies once again, only this time aboard a hot air balloon.
The folks at Ragge & Willow in
Greensburg did a great job of showing us things from a whole new perspective!
Kind of odd being at 10,000 feet in a wicker basket! But we were soon
at home and even did a live call-in to the WDVE morning show during
the flight.
8/10/02: Sledge
Pledge 2! That's right
2 Daves
2 sledgehammers, and plenty
of stuff to smash on live TV! Those folks in WQED Membership are
alright! We even smashed John Tesh cds! Who said insurance companies
are taking
all the fun out of life?
7/31/02: After
a long engagement, WDVE makes Dave & Dave official "regulars" on
the Morning Show joining
an elite group consisting of Stan Savran & Gene Collier. Now the
comedy of Dave & Dave lands a regular Wednesday time slot (now
9:15am). It's good to be regular!
5/31/02: Seemed
like a great day for baseball, and it was! Former Bucco great Kent
Tekulve showed us around brand new Falconi Field, home of the minor
league baseball, Washington
Wild Things. We never did figure out what kind of animal that
wild thing on their logo was and they had a field level hot tub
in the stadium
'Nuff said!
5/10/02: France,
Italy, Napa Valley, and now West Deer! That's right, fine wine in
West Deer! The Daves sipped their way around the traditional and family-run La
Casa Narcisi Winery and learned all sorts of stuff about wine.
Most notably, we really liked the Riesling-style wine.
4/30/02: The
Daves hooked up with their radio pal Jim Krenn again, and this time
Jimmy took us to the home of one his passions, Jernigan's Tobacco
Village in the Galleria for some schooling in the fine art of cigar
smoking. We learned everything we could until we were literally green
in the face!
2/28/02: Dave & Dave
appeared on PCNC's "Night Talk" with John
McIntire. We had fun matching barbs with Johnnie Mac, but
we ran out of time before we could talk to any callers. Drats!
2/21/02: Dave & Dave
mark history. With the help of legends like Bill Hillgrove and
Dick Groat, the Daves helped bid a fond farewell to the Fitzgerald
Field
House, long storied home of the basketball-playing Pitt
Panthers. Brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it.
1/25/02: Definitely
the adventure we recieved the most calls about. Was it us? Nah,
it was probably the food. Dave & Dave met the Chicago Dog at D'z
Six Packs and Dogs in Regent Square, definitely a taste treat. And
did we mention beer? They've got a whole cellar full! D'z turned out
to be just one of those places destined to be a Pittsburgh institution,
earning a Dave & Dave seal of approval all the way around! D'z
is in Regent Square at 1118 S. Braddock Ave., 412-241-4666.
